Update: Roof Replaced

The chapter house roof has been replaced.  It was determined that we just couldn’t wait much longer without risking more damage to the building.  The costs to replace the roof were financed in to the existing loan on the house.  I will upload some images of the new roof as soon as I can remember to bring my camera to work.  Adding the roof replacement expenses to the house loan has set the undergraduates back even farther towards their goal of paying off the house and saving for the future.  The NEA Alumni Chapter will continue to raise funds to hopefully cover that costs.  So far, we are nearly 20% towards our goal.  If you have yet to give to the roof campaign, you can do so by clicking the banner on the right of this page.

More information concerning I-Week and our next NEA Alumni Chapter Meeting coming soon!

Chapter Update & Homecoming

Rush was very successful for the undergrads.  Last I heard, they had secured 22 pledges with a couple open bids to consider.  I’ll post more information about the fall pledge class once it is available.

Homecoming is also this weekend, so I wanted to fill everyone in on what was going on.  The undergrads will be tailgating in the pines with the rest of the fraternities.  They are still looking for some quality guys to accept open bids and didn’t want to miss out on potential new members walking through the pines.  The alumni will be on the opposite side near the pavilion, as usual.  Since the alumni association has discontinued the 5th Quarter Party at the Holidome, I thought it would be nice to choose a central location for everyone to gather after the game and the undergrads suggested we gather at the house.  The university has relaxed the alcohol policy this year, so there is no reason everyone can’t continue the party there.

One note about this weekend… with IFC Rush finishing up this past week, don’t expect the new “pledges” to know anything Sigma Chi related yet.  They won’t have pins, shields, lighters or links.  With the national fraternity adopting a 8 week pledge period, they won’t be inducted until early October.  I encourage you to try to visit with the pledges this weekend if you get the chance.  Feel free to talk about why you chose Sigma Chi and why they chose Sigma Chi this last Friday.

Also, If you haven’t registered at the Message Boards yet, please do.  Not only is it beneficial in keeping up with everyone’s contact information, it is a great way to visit with each other.  In fact, if you register at the forums by Tuesday, September 23rd, I’ll enter you in a drawing to win a limited edition, collapsible ASU Red Wolves cooler. (click for picture)  It will hold around 20 bottles and, yes, that is a retractable bottle opener.  You won’t find this cooler at any store, they were special ordered.  We will draw a name at the NEA Sigma Chi Alumni Chapter meeting that night.

Undergrad Brother Recovering from Car Accident

Brother Clayton Preston was injured in a car accident earlier this week, pulling out of Wolf Bookstore.  He was transported to St. Bernards and had to have his spleen removed due to internal bleeding.  Consul Ben Stevens reports that he is doing much better and even making an occasional joke, although he is disappointed about missing the end of rush week.  Clayton is in room 1100 at St. Bernards.  You can send him a St. Bernards e-Well message by clicking here.

UPDATE: (09/14/08) Clayton is doing well and is expected to be discharged tomorrow.

Theta Chi is a Peterson Chapter!

The Theta Chi chapter was awarded with two of Sigma Chi’s most prestiguous awards at this years Balfour Leadership and Training Workshop, the Peterson Award and the Bash Award.  The Peterson Significant Chapter Award is the highest honor an undergraduate chapter of Sigma Chi can recieve. Named for Sigma Chi’s 38th Grand Consul J. Dwight Peterson the award recognizes excellent performance by a chapter in all major areas of operation and programming. The award is generally handed out to only the top 5-10% of the active chapters. Theta Chi also won the Bash Significant Chapter Improvement Award.
