Rush was very successful for the undergrads. Last I heard, they had secured 22 pledges with a couple open bids to consider. I’ll post more information about the fall pledge class once it is available.
Homecoming is also this weekend, so I wanted to fill everyone in on what was going on. The undergrads will be tailgating in the pines with the rest of the fraternities. They are still looking for some quality guys to accept open bids and didn’t want to miss out on potential new members walking through the pines. The alumni will be on the opposite side near the pavilion, as usual. Since the alumni association has discontinued the 5th Quarter Party at the Holidome, I thought it would be nice to choose a central location for everyone to gather after the game and the undergrads suggested we gather at the house. The university has relaxed the alcohol policy this year, so there is no reason everyone can’t continue the party there.
One note about this weekend… with IFC Rush finishing up this past week, don’t expect the new “pledges” to know anything Sigma Chi related yet. They won’t have pins, shields, lighters or links. With the national fraternity adopting a 8 week pledge period, they won’t be inducted until early October. I encourage you to try to visit with the pledges this weekend if you get the chance. Feel free to talk about why you chose Sigma Chi and why they chose Sigma Chi this last Friday.
Also, If you haven’t registered at the Message Boards yet, please do. Not only is it beneficial in keeping up with everyone’s contact information, it is a great way to visit with each other. In fact, if you register at the forums by Tuesday, September 23rd, I’ll enter you in a drawing to win a limited edition, collapsible ASU Red Wolves cooler. (click for picture) It will hold around 20 bottles and, yes, that is a retractable bottle opener. You won’t find this cooler at any store, they were special ordered. We will draw a name at the NEA Sigma Chi Alumni Chapter meeting that night.
